CHAPTER THREE: HIGH PRIESTESS IN EXILE

In the dim past of the lands surrounding the ancient volcano, a people settled and worshiped the volcano as their god. The people traveled to this mountain from the far distant lands of the forests to the east. To this people, the mountain was the source of their life, being the source of the fertile land, which fed them.

For thousands of years, this people dwelled alone without any contact with other people; and living in this condition caused them to be distrustful of the new people who moved to the mountain from the west. Even more than being distrustful, this people considered the arrival of the new people to be a sacrilege to their god.

During the present(?) time, the King (the father of the High Priestess) sent messengers of peace to the new people; and the messengers were sacrificed to the volcano.

"It was after this time that the people of my tribe decided that they had to sacrifice me to the mountain," said the High Priestess.

"You'd better come with us," said Derek, solemnly.

So, the three new friends traveled to the northeast to find a place to hide for a time from the warrior search parties.
