"We have to find shelter," Derek said; "we don't have a chance spending the night out in the open."
"What is this?" Lana asked, looking at the dead animal.
At the same moment that Lana asked about the remains of the dinosaur, Derek noticed a shadow moving quickly near them and passed them. Looking up, he saw to his horror, the giant wingspan of some prehistoric monster circling back toward them.
"RUN!" Derek shouted to Lana as they simultaneously saw, in the ever dimming daylight, a conveniently placed cave. (I couldn't resist this!)
The flying monster dove at them as they jumped into the entrance and rolled on the sandy floor toward the back of the cave. Just as they reached the back of the cave, the monster forced its beak into the cave, almost reaching the back.
"The forces of nature sure placed this cave conveniently for us," Derek panted, exhausted (not yet realizing what he was saying).
Before Lana could even speak, the monster disappeared as quickly as it appeared. They both just stared at each other, and then they heard a terrible roar outside. Together, they slowly crawled over to the cave entrance and looked outside and saw an even more giant monster eating their winged monster. They looked at each other, and without saying a word, they slowly crawled back to the back of the cave.
"'We have to make sure that we find it before it finds us,' you said," she said to Derek.
"Well, we found it!" said Derek.
Lana just looked at Derek and put her hands behind his head; and without another word, she pulled his head toward her, put her lips to his lips, and the next thing they realized was the morning sunlight waking them.
