They decided to take the left passageway and found that the trail they were following seemed to ascend slowly with every step that they took.

Finally, they felt a fresh breeze on their faces; and Derek said to Lana, "We're going to make it!"

The two adventurers left a civilized life of luxury often to experience some of the more exciting things of life; and although they didn't yet know it, this was going to prove to be one of their most exciting adventures. Their search for the diamonds wasn't motivated by necessity, but by their need for adventure; and in the end, this may have been the fact that saved them. The diamonds were only the excuse that they used this time to leave their home in the big city and sail to the tropical coastal city where the sidewalk meets the jungle, where they backpacked through the thick steaming jungle to the mountain from which they were now trying to escape.

As they walked, the breeze felt stronger on their faces; and their spirits were rising. Soon, they saw a faint light in the tunnel ahead; and their spirits were now rising beyond control. They hurried faster; and the faster they hurried, the faster the light grew brighter.

They ran out of the tunnel into the sunshine and hurried down one of the jungle trails to a hill where they could observe the volcano. They looked up at the peak and didn't see any smoke and decided that maybe they weren't in as much trouble as they thought.

Derek looked at Lana and said, "Should we?"

Lana looked at the volcano, then looked at Derek, smiled, and said, "Let's get our things."

Derek took Lana by the hand, and the two walked back and into the tunnel.
